Bung cultivaters harvesting their crop,police a mute spectator

Islamabad,Nov.02: On a routine, this year also thousands of kanals in South Kashmir were  used by tillers to grow Bhung and poppy and during this time  claims were made by  the excise and police officials that a major drive would  be launched against the illegal cultivation and then the SSP Anantnag in seminar conducted at  Govt Higher Secondary school Bijbehara, in which a large number of people participated, claimed that the Bhung cultivators will be booked under PSA.  
The massive cultivation drive by the farmers in their bid to encash the crop was evident as lush green patches of Bhung would  be seen on large areas of agriculture and horticulture land in villages of Bijbehara, Pahalgam, Kulgam, Qazigund, Pulwama, Tral and Shopian. 
In addition in Pulwama, Awantipora and Bijbehara areas, the tall poppy plants at its ripening stage were visible. Now the bung cultivars are    harvesting their crops, in which thousands of youths, who are going to participate in the Board and university examination are working as labors,extracting charas ,getting four hundered rupees per day .

Bung is mainly cultivated in  Krandigam, Dupatyar, Ghantalipora,Thajiwara, Takiabal, Kandipora, Upsan, Kanilwan, Laribal, Hayar, Waghama, Satkipora, Kanelwan, Semthan, Veeri, , Wachi, Kawun, Bandina, Dangripora and Tulkhun on both agriculture and horticulture land more over “ Dupatyar village of Bijbehara is  famous for being involved in the cultivation,” sources said.
“villages where people cultivate this crop on 80 percent of their agriculture land has gone up from 60 in 2008 to 100 in 2010,” sources said.. ...
Were cultivation has gone up, also the number  of youths who are working in extracting chars has also been rapidly  increased due to the lack of moral policing in the Police Deptt. , said a youth without disclosing his name . added, that if the unemployment is one main factor, but if the police department and especially Govt has a intrest to safe the future of Kashmiri youths, they have to start a major drive in order to ban the cultivation and also have to kick off,  a major scheme for the employment of the unemployed youths.
The youth is of nearly 23 years old and is a student of Govt. Degree College Anantnag.
Tehseldar Bijbehar  when contacted in this regard ,said that the government is having keen interest to  uproot the bung and puppy and in this year we have destroyed bung and puppy  on  2500 kanals of land,added that this is very unfortunate that the educated youth is getting involved in the said business. Police department  and Excise has to check it on priority bases ,”he added “
SP Anantnag when asked to comment on surge in the cultivation,and  mainly in the involment of educated youth In the business  said, “The Bhung cultivation has been going on from decades and though we have been destroying the crop but the task is enormous.we providing also counseling for those youths involved in the bung cultivation or extracting charas ” 
khan said the drive against poppy”BANG KAY KILAF JUNG” launched by the police in coordination with other agencies proved to be a huge success as the crop cultivated on around 1000 kanals of land in  Bijbehara was destroyed.
Similarly, he said, that in order to get away rid from the Bhung, we have also registered a dozen FIR’s against bung cultivers .
