J&K Kisan Tehrik held a massive dharna at Divisional Commissioner’s office Jammu

Jammu, Feb. 01:- J&K Kisan Tehrik held a massive dharna at Divisional Commissioner’s office Jammu today on 01-02-2010.  The dharna was addressed among others by Comrade Kishore Kumar, President, Ghulam Nabi Malik, General Secretary, and senior leaders, Comrade Bishan Dass, Abdul Hamid Wani and Mohd.Khalil Naik. 
In his address Comrade Kishore Kumar dealt in length with the problems facing today by common man because of sky-racketing prices of all essential commodities and the scarcity of ration supply.  He blamed the central as well as state governments for pursuing the anti-people policies and for not fulfilling their promises made during the elections.
Ghulam Nabi Malik, General Secretary in his address dealt with the continuing drought situation and its adverse effects in the rural particularly in hills areas.  He said that the people are compelled to purchase the basic essentials on high prices.  Because of scarcity of fodder the paddy grass is sold at Rs.5/- a Kg.  He demanded that Crop Insurance scheme be implemented forthwith and the crop damage caused due to drought may be covered under this scheme.
Senior leaders Comrade Bishan Dass, Abdul Hamid Wani and Mohd.Khalil Naik in their address explained the adverse situation facing the common man due to power failure and its unnecessary interruption particularly in the rural areas.  They said that PDS is for the name’s sake and it is why the black-marketers and hoarders are taking benefit of it.  They demanded that drinking water supply be made a fundamental right of all the citizens.  They also demanded that all the necessary measures be taken to tackle the drought situation in the state.
Later on, the enclosed memorandum was submitted to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and he also gave a patient hearing.
