Srinagar, February 6: Expressing serious concern over continued blood bath in Kashmir, president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti has condemned the brutal and cold blooded murder of a teenager Zahid Farooq by the security forces.
In a statement issued here today, Mehbooba said, “on the one hand the State Government has been seeking cooperation from people for restoring normalcy while on the other hand they were targeting innocent people especially the teenagers”. “The youth fallen to the bullets of security forces during the current months were no way involved in street stone pelting. They were rather singled out for brutal murder”, she pointed and added that such attitude would vitiate the atmosphere that seems beyond repair.
Mehbooba Mufti said that it was preposterous to blame “the vested interests” for the present situation especially in a city where National Conference claimed to be its political citadel. “Where is the political presence of ruling National Conference in the city where the all the eight MLAs and the Member Parliament (MP) belong to NC?”, she asked.
PDP president said that Government, in fact, failed to get clue to the anger of youth and the reason why they were agitating. She made it clear that no effort at calming down the heart feeling of Kashmiri can work unless the government response positively to the political aspirations and requirements of developments. She said that the Kashmir being the core of the problem in South Asia needs to be involved in the bilateral process to find a resolution. She further said that any efforts to solve this problem can not be achieved it desired results if Kashmiries keep falling victim to the State terror and repression.
PDP president said that it was unfortunate that public opinion in rest of the country was deliberately kept uninformed about the happening in the State. She further said that being forth pillar of the democracy media in the whole country has established its credential for its impartiality but it seems that media here has become part of the State Government’s agenda of information black out. She regretted that not even a reference has been made in the national media about the fact that the summer capital of the state has been under curfew for five consecutive days and hundreds of people are lying severely injured. She mentioned that two youth namely Shabbir and Wasid have been struggling for life in the hospital. It seems, she said, Kashsmir qualifies for a mention in the national media only when militants strike.
