Srinagar, June 12::: Expressing strong disapproval of the hush hush manner in which recruitment drive to police in Srinagar city has been launched, the PDP today said this is another brazen instance of the in sincere conduct of state government. A spokesman of the party said it was surprising that the recruitment was started without any prior notice, information or advertisement and it seems it is meant only for those recommended by the ruling party. He said most of the people in down town areas were taken by surprise on learning that a recruitment drive has been launched in Khanyar. Numerous candidates could not appear as a result, he added.
The spokesman said there are thousands of eligible boys in Srinagar city who academically and physically qualified to compete for constable’s post. The government has thrown all norms and established procedures to the wind by conducting the recruitment clandestinely. This, he said, was in accordance with the tradition and character of National Conference which has revived backdoor entries into government, which had been stopped over the past few years as a major reform. He said the youth belong to the city face acute unemployment problems and the government’s intention were clear that it was not providing equal opportunities to all the eligible candidates and would instead use it as means of corruption , nepotism and favoritism.
The spokesman said National conference has always used government jobs as a commodity which it sells either for money or party interests. It was sad that police was being used this time for the dubious agenda of the party which ha already lost all moral and political credibility, he added saying the government must ensure continuation of transparency and fairness in recruitment that had been introduced by the previous government.
The spokesman said the government plans were not clear about the extent of recruitment. It is necessary that it is not confined to just one constituency; he said urging that it should be extended to all the Assembly constituencies and the government must announce the number of total jobs available and the criterion for their distribution and selection
