PDP concerned over fake Safron , demands strong action against culprits

rinagar, 31. Jan::: Peoples Democratic Party has called for strong action against the unscrupulous elements who have been indulging in production of fake saffron. In a statement a spokesman of the party said some people had been found producing fake and spurious saffron and selling it as a product of Kashmir. This has spelt disaster for the saffron industry and thousands of saffron growers.

The spokesman said the people of Pampore which is reputed for producing world’s best saffron have been expressing their concern and anger over this fraud but the government has not taken any visible action so far. He said saffron provides livelihood to thousands of families in Pampore and other areas but the government has been paying no attention to the problems faced by growers. The new threat posed by spurious saffron could serve a deadly blow to the industry unless the administration takes strong action against the culprits
